THE DARK LORDS
Morgoth
Morgoth was the first dark lord in the First Age. He stole the silmarils and fled Valinor and went to Middle-Earth. He wore the iron crown which had the silmarils on it. He was so powerful an enemy, that even his servants were to be reckoned with. One of them is known as Sauron the dark lord who created the one ring to rule all in the Lord of the Rings.
Melkor is said to be the greatest dweller of middle-earth. He was one of the first beings on earth, being part of the Ainur (holy ones). Sent down by Iluvatar to govern wisely, he had powers equal to Manwe, but he misused what he had. Instead of using it for good he misused it for the wrong purposes.
The Nazgul
The nine nazgul were nine mortal men that were tricked by Sauron. Sauron gave them each a ring of power made by him but these rings made the men his servants forever by corrupting their minds, making them the unearthly beings that they become. They are in a state of being between living and dead and being neither. The leader of the nine Nazgul is called the witch king of Angmar. He is most powerful after Sauron.
